The Nanotechnology of IPANEX
Proprietary Admixture Provides Maximum Corrosion Protection
The aggressive environmental and chemical conditions that concrete structures are subjected to are no match for the nano-level protection of IPANEX®. Since IPANEX becomes part of the microstructure, it lasts for the life of the concrete. IPANEX-modified concrete has been documented to show no corrosion after more than 25 years of service.
IPANEX Provides Unparalleled Structural And Corrosion Protection
IPANEX® is a proprietary admixture that waterproofs concrete and provides corrosion control. It is a complex alkaline earth silicate formulation that chemically reacts with Portland cement to improve the physical and chemical properties of concrete in all stages of development – fresh, curing and finished concrete.
Unique from other admixtures, IPANEX is composed of C S-H and has the same chemical and mineralogical structure that gives Portland cement its properties. Measured in tens of nanometers, IPANEX is able to effect the nucleation and growth of the microstructure in concrete and, thereby, providing the concrete with unparalleled structural and corrosion protection.
This “nano-control” of the concrete’s microstructure reduces the permeability of the concrete and provides it with greater strength and durability. In structures that are historically subjected to accelerated deterioration, it also provides added resistance to the corrosion of any reinforcing steel within the structure.
IPANEX Improves The Quality Of Concrete Throughout The Process
This proprietary cement admixture is designed to waterproof concrete and provide corrosion control of an entire structure at the nano level. IPANEX® positively affects the quality of the concrete throughout the cement-making process.
IPANEX can be used in conjunction with other commercial admixtures, such as air entrainment, superplasticizers, accelerators, retarders or pozzolans. IPANEX is a liquid that can be added at the batch plant, pre-casting facility or, if circumstances require, at the job site.
Initial, Fresh Stage – Batching or mixing
- Contains no calcium chloride (or other chlorides)
- Lower slump concrete is more easily mixed, placed and consolidated
- Highly cohesive, eliminating voids and honeycombs
- Bleed-water is reduced, allows for earlier finishing
- Excellent workability when floating or troweling
- Easily pumped
- Minimizes segregation
Curing Stage
- Significantly reduces drying shrinkage
- Lower controlled heat of hydration
Finished Stage – Hardened Concrete
- Higher compressive strength (equal air content)
- Enhanced effect on all physical properties, density and impermeability
- Forms a completely watertight mass – watertight under hydrostatic pressures up to 7 atmospheres – more than 100 psi (689.5 kPa).
- Hard durable surfaces are resistant to dusting and spalling
- Surface is highly resistant to cavitation and abrasion
- Eliminates formation of condensation in the pore matrix, resulting in excellent freeze-thaw resistance
- Inorganic material providing anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties
- Reduces efflorescence and exhibits increased resistance to chloride ion penetration
- Cannot wear off like a coating
